Japan

Evening at Chuzenjiko

Evening at the lake Chuzenji near Nikko.

There is a saying in Japan that one should not speak of beauty before one has been to Nikko. This is actually true. If you go to Nikko, you shouldn't go to Toshogu shrine only. Yes, the Toshogu is worth a visit with all it's colorful carvings, although it seemed a bit overloaded to me. But in Nikko the landscape is a must-see. Around Chuzenjiko there are a lot of smaller lakes and waterfalls and you can spend a wonderful time there. Lake Chuzenji itself is the most beautiful place I've ever seen. I went there three times just because I couldn't get enough of it. There is a small quiet temple which you shouldn't miss if you go there.
